Privacy Policy

At OpenDinks, we respect your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

Effective October 2, 2026

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly when you create an account and use OpenDinks.

Account and Profile Information — When you register, we collect your name and email address. When you complete your profile, you may optionally provide your mobile phone number, gender, profile photo, DUPR rating (a sport skill rating), and self-reported skill level.

Activity Data — As you use OpenDinks, we record your participation in sessions, including games played, wins, losses, check-in timestamps, and court assignments. This data powers the fair rotation algorithm that assigns players to courts.

Authentication Data — If you sign in with Google OAuth, we receive your name and email address from Google. We do not receive your Google password.

Device and Usage Data — We collect basic usage information such as your device type, browser, IP address, and pages you visit. This helps us diagnose bugs and improve the app. If you use the OpenDinks mobile app and grant permission, we collect a device push token to send you push notifications.

Communication Content — If you use the in-app messaging feature (direct messages or session group chats), the content of those messages is stored on our servers so participants can read them.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to operate, maintain, and improve OpenDinks.

Core App Functions — Your name, skill level, and game history are used to match you with appropriate sessions, assign you to courts fairly, and display your status on the session big screen and organizer dashboard.

Notifications — We use your email address to send transactional messages such as email verification and account security notices. If you opt in to push notifications, we use your device token to send you alerts about court assignments, session updates, and relevant activity.

Community Features — Your name and profile photo are visible to other players in sessions you join, club communities you participate in, and to players you message.

Session Management — Organizers and court owners can see your participation status, payment verification status, and game history within sessions they manage. This is necessary for them to run the session fairly.

Analytics and Improvement — We use aggregated, anonymized usage data to understand how the app is used and where it can be improved. We do not sell individual usage profiles.

Cookies and Local Storage

OpenDinks uses cookies and browser local storage to keep the app working and to remember your preferences.

Authentication Cookies — When you sign in, we store a session token in a secure cookie. This keeps you logged in between visits. Without this cookie, you would need to sign in every time you open the app.

Preference Storage — We use local storage (not cookies) to remember interface preferences such as your sidebar collapse state and display theme. This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.

Cookie Consent Tracking — We store a record of your cookie consent choice so we do not ask you again on subsequent visits.

Advertising Cookies — OpenDinks displays advertising supplied by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.

Opting Out of Personalized Advertising — You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Opting out does not remove advertising — it makes the ads you see less relevant to you.

We Do Not Build Our Own Advertising Profiles — We do not sell your personal information, and we do not create or sell advertising profiles ourselves. Ad targeting is performed by Google using its own cookies, not by OpenDinks using your account data.

Managing Cookies — You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser or device settings. Clearing your authentication cookie will sign you out of OpenDinks.

Push Notifications

If you use the OpenDinks mobile app, you may be asked to grant permission to send push notifications.

What We Send — Push notifications are used to alert you when you are assigned to a court, when a session status changes, and for other time-sensitive updates relevant to your active sessions.

How It Works — We use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), a service provided by Google, to deliver push notifications to your device. When you grant permission, your device generates a unique push token that is stored on our servers and shared with FCM solely to deliver notifications to your device.

Opting Out — You can revoke push notification permission at any time in your device's notification settings. Revoking permission stops all push notifications.

No Marketing Push Notifications — We only send operational notifications related to your active sessions. We do not send promotional or marketing push notifications.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We share data with third parties only as described below.

Infrastructure Providers — OpenDinks runs on Vercel (frontend hosting) and Convex (backend and database). Your data is stored and processed on their infrastructure. Both providers operate under their own privacy and security policies.

Google — If you sign in with Google OAuth, your sign-in is handled by Google. If you use push notifications, delivery is handled by Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging service. Google receives only what is necessary to complete these functions.

Google AdSense — We display advertising through Google AdSense. Google may collect information about your visits to this and other websites through cookies and similar technologies in order to select and serve ads. This is governed by Google's Privacy & Terms. We do not share your account information, email address, game history, or messages with Google for advertising purposes.

Other Players and Organizers — Information you make visible through the app — such as your name, profile photo, skill level, and in-session status — is visible to other participants in shared sessions and club communities.

Legal Requirements — We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person or to address fraud or security issues.

Business Transfers — If OpenDinks is acquired or merges with another organization, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Authentication tokens are stored in secure, HTTP-only cookies where supported. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel.

Our backend provider stores data in encrypted form at rest and in transit. We enforce role-based access controls so that, for example, only organizers of a given session can access the detailed player data for that session.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at opendinks.app@gmail.com and change your password.

Your Rights

You have rights over the personal information we hold about you.

Access and Correction — You can view and update your profile information at any time through your OpenDinks account settings, including your name, email, mobile number, gender, profile photo, skill level, and DUPR rating.

Data Deletion — You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing opendinks.app@gmail.com. We will delete your account and remove your personal information from our active systems within 30 days.

Data Portability — You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you by contacting opendinks.app@gmail.com. We will provide your data in a commonly used format within 30 days.

Withdraw Consent — Where we rely on your consent to process data (such as push notifications), you may withdraw that consent at any time through your device or app settings.

Residents of Certain Jurisdictions — Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws (such as GDPR in the European Union, or CCPA in California). Contact us at opendinks.app@gmail.com to exercise any of these rights.

Children's Privacy

OpenDinks is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account on OpenDinks, please contact us at opendinks.app@gmail.com and we will promptly delete the account and associated data.

If you are between 13 and 18 years old, please review this policy with a parent or guardian before creating an account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice in the app before the change takes effect.

Your continued use of OpenDinks after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. If you do not agree with the changes, you should stop using OpenDinks and may request deletion of your account.
